The Coast Guard requested the assistance of any nearby vessels as set out in search of the Blue Chip. The Golden Bear, a Maritime Academy training ship, responded to the call and agreed to assist in the rescue. The training ship had just returned from a two month international training course.

The two passengers were rescued, unharmed and in good condition.

The 1,486-passenger ship was hit by swells of up to 23-feet and 50-knot winds. The ship’s arrival in Auckland has been delayed by 24 hours due to the storm.

The stevedore was apparently injured when a co-worker ran him over with a fork lift.  The victim’s supervisor says he told the victim to release the cargo net from the forklift to load cargo onto the ship. Unfortunately, the fork lift operator did not see the victim.
